Distinctive Stereo is delighted – in fact, tickled pink! – to announce that we are a dealer for the HYPER SONIC X4 cartridge.

The X4 was built by a highly respected cartridge maker, in conjunction with design input from  Gary Koh of Genesis Advanced Technologies. Their ultimate goal was to produce a cartridge that could extract as much information as possible from the grooves, without adding any embellishment or coloration. In designing the X4, they realized that it would have much in common with a Formula1 race car, in that to push performance to the extreme, every aspect of the design mattered, and had to be optimized; no shortcuts could be taken.  Once the cartridge was designed, the same extreme attention to detail had to be applied to the manufacturing process.

Though Gary and his collaborators would love for every audiophile and music lover to use an X4, they were well aware that this would not be a mass-production product.  It is geared to the ultra-high performance market, by which is not meant those who want “bragging rights” but rather, those who have the means and the desire to have the best vinyl reproduction possible.  Though the X4 can in principle be used with any audio system,  the better the associated equipment, the more the X4’s true ability will be realized.
